November 16, 2012 (6:30pm): St. Thomas Hall, 401 Alderman Road

altThe next film in our 2012-13 Series is Departures (2008), a Japanese film (with English subtitles).  This Academy Award-winning, internationally acclaimed film includes no Doctors of the Church, no Saints or Popes, or even any explicitly Catholic or Christian characters. And yet, this deeply engaging and transformative story of an unemployed

celloist who very unexpectedly finds himself responsible for encoffining the dead offers such a thoughtful and profoundly human story of living, death and the possibilities of forgiveness that it falls quite easily within the subsets of our imaginative faculties and the Catholic intellectual tradition. Come and see and hear and think for yourself. Bring a friend or two, and plan to meet and join others for informal discussion afterwards.

All are invited to attend this (FREE!) film event, which begins at 6:30pm in St. Thomas Hall of St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 401 Alderman Road.
